ES KACANG MERAH MANADO (RED BEAN ICE FROM MANADO) RECIPES

Another typical Indonesian drink, the most popular and refreshing is the Red Bean Ice. There are two regions in Indonesia that provide red bean ice, namely Palembang and Manado.

The difference between the red bean ice in Manado City and Palembang lies in the ingredients used. For Palembang red bean ice, use coco pandan syrup, so the color of the ice turns red. While the Manado red bean ice, uses sweetened condensed milk chocolate.

You can also make your own red bean ice at home. The ingredients for red bean ice are fairly simple. You can also guarantee the cleanliness of the ice and other ingredients.

INGREDIENTS :

  • 200 grams of fresh red beans 
  • 2 pandan leaves 
  • 1 liter of water 
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt 
  • 200 ml of evaporated milk 
  • 150 grams of sugar 

Complementary : 

  • 400 grams of shaved ice 
  • 4 teaspoons of sweetened condensed milk chocolate

HOW TO MAKE :

  1. Prepare a pot and boil red beans, pandan leaves, water, and salt until cooked and tender. You can also boil it with a pressure cooker to make it softer faster.
  2. Add evaporated milk and sugar. Boil red beans until thickened. Remove and cool. 
  3. Prepare a glass of mixed ice. Then add crushed ice to it. Add red beans and drizzle with chocolate sweetened condensed milk. Red bean ice is ready to be enjoyed.

Tips: If you want a more savory taste, you can pour coconut milk on the shaved ice. Red bean ice is also suitable to be eaten with fro or avocado. You can also add your favorite syrup for those of you who like sweet.
